Community With a Cost? And Why It’s Worth It
Everyone talks about the power of community, but no one mentions the cost. Not just money but time, energy, and emotional labor. What does it take to build a creative space that actually works? Let’s talk about it.

The Real Value of a Creative Network
When you think of a creative community, what comes to mind?
A Facebook group where people drop links and never interact?
A networking event where everyone is trying to sell you something?
A collaboration offer that turns out to be one sided?
I’ve seen my share. And the one thing that’s always missing? Real synergy.
That moment when two creatives connect and suddenly, ideas start flowing. One person’s strength fills the gap in another’s vision. Someone needs a designer, another needs a writer, and just like that an opportunity is created that never would have happened in “in the comfort of your hom”.
That’s the power of a real creative community. And that’s what I’m building.
Why There’s a Cost (And Why It Matters)
I know the first thought some people have: Why isn’t this free?
Because free doesn’t always mean valuable.
I’ve been in free groups where no one interacts. I’ve been to free networking events that felt forced and transactional. And I’ve seen what happens when there’s no intention behind connection.
Charging a fee isn’t so that I can make a dollar off of creatives but more so it’s about creating an environment where people are actively invested in showing up, engaging, and making things happen.
And from day one, my intention has always been to keep this affordable.
I know what it’s like to hit cashflow issues when you’re just trying to grow. That’s why For Creatives LLC will never be priced out of reach. The goal isn’t to create another expensive gatekeeping space it’s to make sure the right people come together and actually connect.
This is more than joining another creative group.
You’re stepping into a space where you can collaborate, find support, and actually build something meaningful.
The Doors That Are Opening (Because of Smart Business Moves)
Now that we’re on the topic of making things happen, here’s something I haven’t shared yet.
When I started For Creatives LLC in 2021, funding wasn’t an option for me. My credit wasn’t where it needed to be, and every opportunity felt just out of reach (insert Latto’s Brokey).
But I decided to switch it up and get intentional.
Focused on fixing my credit
Made strategic business decisions
Got real consistent even when things felt slow
And now? That work is finally paying off.
I more recently connected with someone about funding my business, an option that never would have been possible before. This is happening due to the work I put in last year. My efforts to build my financial foundation, have new doors opening.
And that’s what I want this space to be not just ideas, but action. Not just networking, but momentum.
Who This Is For
Not everyone will get it or get in, and that’s okay.
But if you’re looking for more than just a place to post your work and hope someone notices, if you want a space where you can share your experiences, learn from others, and be part of something that actually moves creatives forward, then this is for you.
Have a skill or experience that could help someone else? There’s space for you to share it.
Looking for insights from people who have already figured out what you’re trying to do? You’ll find that here.
Want to build real relationships, not just “connections”? This is where it happens.
This isn’t just about getting opportunities it’s about creating them, together.
The Next Move
I’ve spent years watching creatives struggle to find spaces that actually support them. That’s why I building this, not as another platform to scroll through, but as a real space where creatives can find opportunities, connections, and momentum.
This is for the creatives who are done waiting. Done hoping someone believed in them as much as they believed in themselves. Done sitting on the sidelines.
If that’s you, welcome, because this is where things start moving.

The Ford Transit Diaries: The Wild Ride to Finding the Right Van
What happens when you set out to find the perfect van with a budget and a dream? Let’s talk about the unexpected roadblocks, dealership drama, and why I refuse to settle.
There wasn’t some big, cinematic moment where I threw my hands in the air and yelled, “I need a van!” No dramatic Clueless moment with a lightbulb going on, and no slow motion montage of me packing up my life.
It was more of a creeping realization and uneasy feeling.
The deeper I got into my vision for For Creatives LLC, the clearer it became: every road led to a paywall. Studio rentals? Expensive. Workspace memberships? More Expensive. Investing in a physical location? The Most Expensivest (Shout out to 2 Chainz for that amazing show)
I needed a workaround. A solution that would give me mobility, flexibility, and most importantly… control.
That’s when the research hyper focus began.
The Great Van Debate: Promaster vs. Transit
Originally, I had my sights set on a Ram Promaster. It felt like the logical choice:
Boxy build = more interior space
Front wheel drive = better handling in snow
A staple vehicle within the van lifer community
But after watching what can only be described as an unreasonable amount of YouTube videos, van conversion tours, and deep dives into Reddit forums (shoutout to the people who get way too technical about literally everything), I started rethinking my choice.
Enter the Ford Transit 250.
Medium to high roof – Perfect for standing up inside (because who wants to crouch all day?)
Tougher build – Feels more durable, and I plan on putting this van through some miles
All wheel drive option – Because if I’m doing this, I want to be ready for any road trip detour (but Im prepared to not get it if I’m at least hitting everything else I want)
So, I pivoted. Transit 250 became the goal.
Now, all I had to do was find one within my budget.
A Van Search That Feels Like a Reality Show
You’d think finding a used Ford Transit 250 for under $16K would be simple enough. It’s actually not.
Between shady FB Marketplace listings, dealership markups, and vans that looked decent online but were literally one pothole away from falling apart, this process has been… eventful (and entertaining).
I’ve had salespeople try to upsell me on everything.
One dealership called to tell me they had the perfect van for me but when I showed up, I found out it had 275,000 miles on it. Bro, at the very least try to roll the numbers back.
Another listing conveniently left out the fact that the van had been in three accidents. When I pointed it out, the guy rolled his eyes and said, “But, it still runs though.”
I’m learning that having patience is the key and that car salesmen might be the original kings of “fake it til you make it.”
Why This Van Matters (And No, I’m Not Living in It)
Now that I’m in the trenches of actually finding a van, I’ve been getting all kinds of reactions.
Friends: “Omg, that’s dope!”
Strangers: “So… are you okay?”
Family: “This is just a phase, right?”
Some people genuinely think I’m about to live in this van with a toddler.
Others have kindly offered me places to stay.
Let’s clear this up: I have homes. That’s not the problem.
The problem is that traditional workspaces (whether it’s a rental studio or a leased office) are ridiculously expensive. Hello, I’m a single mom on one salary over here. This van isn’t about escaping life; it’s about building something sustainable for me but also attainable for others.
A mobile podcast studio that gives creatives a real space to record, collaborate, and create but without paying up the wazoo for it.
The Bigger Picture: A Moving Monument to Creativity
This van is going to be more than a vehicle. It’s going to be proof that you don’t have to wait for permission.
Instead of renting, I’m creating my own space.
Instead of waiting for the “right time,” I’m making it happen now.
Instead of taking “no” for an answer, I’m rewriting the rules.
And if this van search is teaching me anything, it’s that persistence beats perfect conditions every time.
Want to Follow the Chaos?
I’ll be documenting the entire process from new test drives to more negotiations.
The first podcast episode is coming soon!!!
Oh, and I might just go into details about the most ridiculous dealership experiences along the way.

But First a Podcast
Starting a podcast? Here's why it’s the foundation of For Creatives LLC and how audio storytelling is building a real creative community.
Why I Started My Podcast Before Buying My Van
Heyyy! If this is your first time here, welcome! And if not, welcome anyways. The journey you’re about to witness is about bringing a vision to life, one tiny step and looong step at a time. You may be wondering why there’s a focus on a van. I’d like to think the van isn’t just a van; it’s the heart of it all. It’s my future mobile creative studio, a space where podcasters, content creators, and entrepreneurs can collaborate without barriers. It’s about breaking free from the limits of traditional studio spaces and bringing opportunities directly to the people who need them. So before the van even gets here, I’m laying the groundwork, and that starts with the podcast (and a blog for the assist). Now let’s get into it!
When I tell people I’m launching a podcast before even buying my van, the reaction is usually some variation of “Wait… what? Why?” And honestly, I get it. Realistically speaking, you’d think I’d focus on securing the van first since it’s such a huge piece of my vision for For Creatives LLC. But for me, I have a deep faith that everything will work out the way it”s suppose to. By building the foundation first it allows the business to get into motion before the van is ever here.
The Podcast is the Soul of the Vision
For Creatives LLC is more than a name, it’s also about creating a space where creatives can connect, collaborate, and actually get the support they need to grow. A mobile podcast studio morphed into part of the vision, but before the van even enters the picture, I needed to establish the community. And what better way to do that than through conversation?
A podcast allows me to:
1. Start the community building process immediately.
2. Give creatives a platform to highlight their work, struggles, and wins.
3. Create valuable content through real shared insights and connections.
4. Build momentum so that in the future I’m not “just starting”; I’m scaling.
Building Before the Build
I see too many people waiting for the perfect conditions before they start their dream project. I could have said, “I’ll launch the podcast when I have the van.” But that would mean delaying connections, conversations, and growth that I can already begin right now.
Instead, I’m doing the opposite by making the podcast the driving force. The van will definitely amplify it, sure, but the community? That starts today.
The Flexibility Factor
The best part? I don’t need a fully built out van to record. Right now, my “studio” is my dining room table. Not exactly the soundproof, industry grade recording space I imagined, but it works. The beauty of podcasting is that I can take it anywhere (coffee shops, coworking spaces, Airbnbs, even parking lots). And let’s be real, that’s going to be a vibe once we have it ready!
By the time I’ve completed my conversion from a regular degular van to a mobile podcast studio, I’ll already have an engaged audience, an established format, and episodes lined up. The van is just the cherry on top
The Bigger Picture: Building a Sustainable Business
Another major factor in launching the podcast first? Monetization. A podcast opens up revenue streams now (through sponsorships, ad placements, and other smart moves) that I can reinvest into the van build without draining my savings. Which allows me to handle the process as investment into it as an asset.
And Then, There’s The Ford Transit Quest
Now, let’s not forget the side mission (The Great Ford Transit Hunt.) Because yes, while I’m running the podcast and building For Creatives LLC, I’m also deep in the trenches trying to find the perfect 2019 Ford Transit 250 with a medium or high roof, under 150K miles, and somehow priced under $16K (manifesting, okay?)
This search deserves its own storyline, which is why I’ll be documenting it as a side series on the blog. Expect the ups, the downs, the the all arounds, and hopefully the moment when I finally find the right van.
Final Thoughts: Just Start
If there’s one takeaway from all of this, it’s that you don’t have to wait until everything is perfect to begin. I’m not waiting for a van to start my podcast. I’m not waiting for a huge audience to start building a community. And if you’re sitting on an idea, waiting for “the right time” (here’s your sign: just start.)
The van will come. The community will grow. And For Creatives LLC? Get ready to be impressed.
