But First a Podcast
Why I Started My Podcast Before Buying My Van
Heyyy! If this is your first time here, welcome! And if not, welcome anyways. The journey you’re about to witness is about bringing a vision to life, one tiny step and looong step at a time. You may be wondering why there’s a focus on a van. I’d like to think the van isn’t just a van; it’s the heart of it all. It’s my future mobile creative studio, a space where podcasters, content creators, and entrepreneurs can collaborate without barriers. It’s about breaking free from the limits of traditional studio spaces and bringing opportunities directly to the people who need them. So before the van even gets here, I’m laying the groundwork, and that starts with the podcast (and a blog for the assist). Now let’s get into it!
When I tell people I’m launching a podcast before even buying my van, the reaction is usually some variation of “Wait… what? Why?” And honestly, I get it. Realistically speaking, you’d think I’d focus on securing the van first since it’s such a huge piece of my vision for For Creatives LLC. But for me, I have a deep faith that everything will work out the way it”s suppose to. By building the foundation first it allows the business to get into motion before the van is ever here.
The Podcast is the Soul of the Vision
For Creatives LLC is more than a name, it’s also about creating a space where creatives can connect, collaborate, and actually get the support they need to grow. A mobile podcast studio morphed into part of the vision, but before the van even enters the picture, I needed to establish the community. And what better way to do that than through conversation?
A podcast allows me to:
1. Start the community building process immediately.
2. Give creatives a platform to highlight their work, struggles, and wins.
3. Create valuable content through real shared insights and connections.
4. Build momentum so that in the future I’m not “just starting”; I’m scaling.
Building Before the Build
I see too many people waiting for the perfect conditions before they start their dream project. I could have said, “I’ll launch the podcast when I have the van.” But that would mean delaying connections, conversations, and growth that I can already begin right now.
Instead, I’m doing the opposite by making the podcast the driving force. The van will definitely amplify it, sure, but the community? That starts today.
The Flexibility Factor
The best part? I don’t need a fully built out van to record. Right now, my “studio” is my dining room table. Not exactly the soundproof, industry grade recording space I imagined, but it works. The beauty of podcasting is that I can take it anywhere (coffee shops, coworking spaces, Airbnbs, even parking lots). And let’s be real, that’s going to be a vibe once we have it ready!
By the time I’ve completed my conversion from a regular degular van to a mobile podcast studio, I’ll already have an engaged audience, an established format, and episodes lined up. The van is just the cherry on top
The Bigger Picture: Building a Sustainable Business
Another major factor in launching the podcast first? Monetization. A podcast opens up revenue streams now (through sponsorships, ad placements, and other smart moves) that I can reinvest into the van build without draining my savings. Which allows me to handle the process as investment into it as an asset.
And Then, There’s The Ford Transit Quest
Now, let’s not forget the side mission (The Great Ford Transit Hunt.) Because yes, while I’m running the podcast and building For Creatives LLC, I’m also deep in the trenches trying to find the perfect 2019 Ford Transit 250 with a medium or high roof, under 150K miles, and somehow priced under $16K (manifesting, okay?)
This search deserves its own storyline, which is why I’ll be documenting it as a side series on the blog. Expect the ups, the downs, the the all arounds, and hopefully the moment when I finally find the right van.
Final Thoughts: Just Start
If there’s one takeaway from all of this, it’s that you don’t have to wait until everything is perfect to begin. I’m not waiting for a van to start my podcast. I’m not waiting for a huge audience to start building a community. And if you’re sitting on an idea, waiting for “the right time” (here’s your sign: just start.)
The van will come. The community will grow. And For Creatives LLC? Get ready to be impressed.
